What is it?

“The only game engine that tastes better slightly burned!”

Marshmallow is a game engine for 8-bit and 16-bit style 2D video games, it won’t be limited to such, but most of the base features will focus on that era of gaming.

Why?

As a child of the mid 80′s and early 90′s, I grew up playing games on the Atari, NES, SNES and PC. I think bringing them back would be a great way teach new generations about real old-school gaming (and it’s just plain fun to work on video games).

What are the Target Platforms?

PC (Linux, Mac, Windows) Mobile (iPhone, Android)

Linux is our base target (since I work with Gentoo and Funtoo Linux), but we are planning on fully supporting the above mentioned platforms.

When can we expect a stable release?

Games and demos will be released as we go along – but an actual engine stable branch won’t make an appearance for a little while – we are still playing around with a few ideas for it at the moment.

But don’t fear, every time we feel we have something useful, we will release an alpha.

I agree with everything you say! Can I contribute?

Sure, the more the merrier! If you’re a programmer, designer, sound engineer or swimsuit model you’re most welcome!
